A Cut, Paste and Sip Workshop Full of Fun and Friendship

Are you wondering what it’s like to attend one of my Cut, Paste and Sip workshops? Well, I’m super excited to share the recent ‘paint and sip’ style workshop I ran to celebrate International Women’s Day. Running a workshop has been on my wish list for a long time, and it exceeded my expectations!

I loved guiding a fabulous group of women to create a collage-based artwork. The creative energy in the room as everyone worked on creating a portrait decorated with positive affirmations for self-empowerment was inspiring.

I especially loved seeing the different interpretations of my work as people cut and paste, using my art as a springboard to create something unique. It filled my heart with joy to see new friendships forming and old friendships celebrated.

Wow! Looking back at these photos, there was so much colour and happiness in the room.

It was beautiful to see all the fantastic artwork produced during the collage workshop. I loved how people let go of the need for perfection and just had fun creating. It was a magical evening, and I can't wait to do something like this again soon.

I had the fabulous Heidi Wolff taking photos of the evening. If you were one of the lucky participants, feel free to download and share your photos. Please credit both Heidi and me if you share the images. These are all low-res for the Internet, but send me an email if you’d like a high-res copy. My top four workshop highlights:

  1. Connecting with the beautiful women who attended the workshop. It was lovely to see everyone coming together to celebrate feminine creativity.

  2. Sharing my passion for art and creativity with like-minded women and seeing everyone working intently in their creative flow.

  3. Seeing all the different versions that everyone created from my 'Mr. Potato Head' style of collage art kit and hearing the stories of why the empowering affirmations were chosen.

  4. Being forced to move past the fear of imperfection and create this workshop even though I didn't think I was ready to do it. It's funny how often we put off doing things that scare us, especially when those things might be the very things that will help us achieve our dreams. Running a workshop was on my vision board for this year, and I am so glad I said yes to this opportunity!

Why I ran a collage art workshop for International Women's Day

I loved spending time with my sister cutting, pasting, and drawing when I was little. We would spend hours combining our drawings with our collection of wrapping paper, Easter egg wrappers, stickers, and other random treasures into new creations. As we drew, we would make up stories, bounce ideas off each other, and embellish our art with imaginary worlds.

We would happily lose hours engrossed in this process of creating magical worlds and adding meaning with words, forming the foundation for the close relationship we have today.

I wanted to share that feeling with other women and encourage them to take time for themselves and enjoy the feeling that comes from being in their creative flow. So I swallowed my fear and offered to run a paint-and-sip style workshop when Burnside Council asked me to exhibit my work at Glenunga Hub for International Women's Day.

It was a massive learning curve! But I have no regrets; it was everything I hoped it would be—we all made new connections and created beautiful, colourful art. The best part was that we all left feeling refreshed and inspired, with a sense of friendship and community.

Celebrating feminine energy and the joy of creativity

The whole evening was so much fun. I loved seeing the beautiful energy in the room. It was so inspiring to be surrounded by such creative and talented women. We shared stories and laughed together, and it was a fabulous evening.

Anyone can experience the joy of creativity. Irrespective of whether you think you can draw or not. Creativity is more than just the traditional arts like drawing, music, or dancing. When we allow ourselves to be creative, we open ourselves up to a flow state. We become more mindful and in the moment as we focus on creating something. This can lead to a sense of calm and relaxation and allow us to express ourselves in new ways.

I am passionate about helping women connect with their creativity, and I believe everyone is creative. I want to encourage people to tap into their inner creativity and make time for play. I designed the workshop to suit all abilities, from people who have no idea where or how to start to those who are experienced artists. There was no pressure and no judgment. Just lots of fun and positivity!

Looking forward to more workshops in the future

I loved running my first collage art workshop, and I'm looking forward to doing more in the future. It was so fun meeting so many amazing women and seeing their creativity come to life. The workshop was well-received, and everyone had a great time. A massive thank you to Burnside Council for the opportunity to run a collage art workshop as part of their International Women's Day celebrations.

I learned so much from taking a risk and starting before I was ready. And it worked! The evening was everything I imagined it would be. We made time for ourselves, enjoyed the company of a fabulous group of women, and had fun getting in the creative flow.

I can't wait to see what the next workshop will bring!
